Apatosaurus walks under a folk-art sunrise, framed by an oval of Jurassic plants: squat cycads with diamond-patterned trunks, conifer sprigs with round cones, lacy ferns and fiddleheads, and a row of big mushrooms with a small turtle and a snail tucked among them. Apatosaurus, whose name means deceptive lizard, lived in the Late Jurassic of western North America about 150 million years ago.
