The name means 'terrible ape', and only half of that is true. Dinopithecus was a giant baboon, a monkey rather than an ape, caught here mid-stride and mid-roar in deep maroon engraving, mane up and tail high. It prowled southern Africa in the Pliocene and early Pleistocene, outweighing every baboon alive today, with the largest males estimated near 170 pounds. Robert Broom named it in 1937 and the name stuck, taxonomy notwithstanding. Made from lightweight 100% ring-spun cotton with a soft, sensory-friendly feel.
